Reminders

To help challenge the Broadband Map, three speed tests over three days are required. Start by completing the form with your location and email, and we’ll remind you to follow up with subsequent tests. Thank you for supporting better internet access in Alpine, Amador, Calaveras, Tuolumne, and Mariposa Counties.

Speed Test and the Program Challenge Process

Your internet provider may be reporting faster speeds than you actually receive. These reported speeds appear on the Broadband Map, but many households experience slower or unreliable service. By taking our speed test, you can help us challenge inaccurate data. To submit a valid challenge, you’ll need to complete three tests from the same location on three different days. Your results will help us hold internet service providers accountable for providing accurate service levels, and improve broadband access in our region.

What are some Speed Test Best Practices?

Connecting your device directly to your router with an ethernet cable will provide the most accurate results.

Minimize household internet usage during the test.

Pause video streaming, downloads, uploads or gaming while taking the test to provide the most accurate results

Disable VPNs or Firewalls temporarily - VPNs and firewalls can affect your speed test results. Turn them off temporarily, if possible and safe to do so.

Frequently Asked Questions

What can I get out of this, why should I test?

You'll see the actual internet speeds your provider is delivering. Your results help identify gaps in service and can support efforts to attract new providers to your area—leading to more reliable, affordable internet options.

How do I find my prescribed speed before I take this test?

Your plan includes specific download and upload speeds. To find them, check your latest bill, service agreement, or your ISP’s app or website.

Can I be a part of the challenge if I am paying for Starlink satellite subscription?

Yes. Starlink is a recognized internet provider, and your speed test results can be used in the challenge. It’s also a good way to measure your actual service performance.
